Breakfast Information

Learning is linked to good nutrition. Children who eat breakfast do better in school.
Studies have shown that there is a direct correlation between test scores and good nutrition. The more nutritionally balanced the meal the longer the body stays satisfied and operates more efficiently. Children who don’t eat breakfast are tardy and absent more. They often are cranky and irritable, feel sick in class and have more visits to the school nurse.
The Shrewsbury Public Schools Food Service Department is committed to the importance of its students eating well-balanced breakfasts at home or at school. During the school year breakfast will be offered at all schools. A variety of cold breakfast selections: cereals, morning pastries and bread, yogurt, fruits, milk and juices. Please have your children join us for a school breakfast.

 Charge Lunch Policy

Dear Parents,

The School Lunch Program is having a problem at all schools with students not bringing in money for lunch. We understand parents and children sometimes forget about lunch money. In the past we have provided students forgetting money with a lunch of their choice and have given them an IOU voucher to take home to their parents so that we could be reimbursed the following day. This system is not working. Children are charging lunches more frequently and forgetting to reimburse the cafeteria staff the next day.

If children forget their lunch money we will provide the student with a Peanut butter or Jelly Sandwich, fruit and milk. We will also send a letter home stating how much money for lunch is owed. Please try to remember to send in lunch money with your child or pay us back the following day if your child brings home a notice.

Payment can be made directly to the cafeteria staff at your child's school or a check made payable to the School Lunch Program can be sent to the cafeteria manager at your child's school.

Sincerely,

Beth Nichols

Food Service Director
