The Board of Health activities related to health and the environment, including but not limited to smoking and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke; the collection and disposal of solid waste; the operation of the ash residue landfill; recycling, the handling of leaves, grass and yard waste; sewage disposal; food service sanitation; housing; hazardous materials, especially mercury; and illegal dumping continue to be the highest priority items in the Health Department.

Diseases of the Month: West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) -- Visit the Massachusetts Department of Public Health website at www.mass.gov/dph/wnv/wnv1.htm for educational information on WNV and EEE.

You may also access current reports of WNV and EEE virus in birds, mosquito pools, horses and humans in Massachusetts at this site. Learn how to protect yourself and your family by covering up with long pants and long sleeves, using insect repellent and eliminating the places on your property where mosquitoes may live and breed.
