| SELCO is New Name for Shrewsbury’s
Town Owned Utilities
The town-owned
and operated electric and cable companies have a new name. SELCO
will be the acronym for “Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations”
which replaces “Shrewsbury’s Electric Light Plant and
Shrewsbury’s Community Cablevision.”
The change took place after discussions by SELCO Commission and
staff about a new name and a new look for a newer era in the life
of Shrewsbury Electric, established in 1908, and Shrewsbury Cable,
established in 1983.
“The change reflects a new time in our history while also
maintaining the essence of what we do which means providing the
community with high-quality, state-of-the art electric and cable
services at competitive prices,” said Tom Josie, General Manager.
“We will continue to dedicate ourselves to serving the community,
a tradition that began in 1908 with the electric company and was
expanded in 1983 with the establishment of the cable company.”
Shrewsbury’s community owned and operated utilities are subject
to regulation by the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications
and Energy.
